In loving memory of

Johannes Christian Tredoux

“A life of service is a life well and greatly lived.”

Johan was never concerned about materialistic things. He was focused on what he could instill in those around him.

Born

Johan was born 3 August 1953 and spent much of his early life in the Western Cape.

Growing Up

Growing up, Johan was a fantastic sportsman; he loved his tennis and represented his province throughout his highschool career. He was a competitive man and left held nothing back on the sports field. He also played cricket for his school and enjoyed the occassional swim for his school. He continued playing tennis even after he was first diagnosed with cancer. He never allowed the illness to control his life and wanted to live it to the fullest.

Adult Life

Johan was passionate about teaching and making a difference in the community. After school he studied to become a teacher. During this time he also met his wife, Susan Roos and proposed to her in 1975. He believed that how you treat your wife is the most true reflection of who you are as a man. He adored her.

Family

Johan fathered 3 children. Christian, Jacques and Melissa. He was a strict but loving father. When they were naughty he would always tell them: “It is because I love you that I have to punish you, I don’t enjoy this any more than you do.”

Johan became a grandfather in 1996 and this is when the fun started. After spending many years with Christian’s antics; it was time for Oupa to teach little Johan all the tricks in the book! There was nothing that could light up Johan’s face like when his grandson sat on his lap and tattled away about anything and everything.

The Final Years

Johan retired in 2010 after his first diagnosis of cancer. He received a standing ovation from the school in his final assembly speech. It was a difficult “goodbye” for Johan but he knew he had served well and made a difference in each and every student’s life. His commitment to the community continued after his retirement when he volunteered to tutor less fortunate children and play his part in the ending of our poverty cycle. He always said: “I don’t have to change the world, I just have to change someone’s world.” He did this each and every day wherever he went.
